The popular fortnightly sale of cattle at North West Auctions Junctions 36 saw an abundance of buyers, with several returning faces all looking to secure cattle and keen to return to future sales.

CALVES & WEANLINGS

A nice show of calves at Junction 36’s ever growing calf sale, with new vendors here to take advantage once again.
A good show of Aberdeen Angus calves led the way today, with these topping the bulls at £880 from Messrs Threlkeld, a further two from this home achieved £840. CR Dickson, Thurnham brought a fine pen of Aberdeen Angus, with the bulls in these topping at £860 x2 and £830. British Blue bulls sold to £810 from Bambers Farm, Thurnham and Limousin to £700 from CM&CS Chapplehow, Penrith. Month old bulls sold to £680 from WH Kitching, Milnthorpe and £660 from HJ Robinson, Crooklands. Black and Whites sold to £640 from Messrs Threlkeld, Crooklands with others to £620 from AK&BM Robinson, Carnforth.
Heifer calves sold to £820 for Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Threlkeld, Crooklands who claimed the next top two prices at £800 x2. CR Dickson, Thurnham reached £760 x2 for Aberdeen Angus and Bambers Farm, Thurnham reached £700 for British Blues. Limousin sold to £650 from Langley Park, while one month old British Blues sold to £610 from A Pickthall, New Hutton. Youngest calf of the day was a week old Limousin heifer from B&MJ Nelson selling for £370.

STIRKS

A real appetite for stirks today which were all easily sold, with vendors leaving well suited with prices achieved. Steers sold to £1290 on several occasions for Limousin cross and Aberdeen Angus cross from B Butterfield & Son, others were nicely £1000 to £1200. Younger steers sold to £980 for four month old Beef Shorthorn cross from SM&CL Bowe, with Aberdeen Angus £940 from Messrs Young. Dairy steers sold to £840 for ten month old black and whites from RW Bainbridge.
Heifers peaked at £1390 for Limousin cross from B Butterfield & Son, with Aberdeen Angus cross £1170 from TW&BH Woodhouse & Partners. Yearling dairy cross heifers were nicely £960 to £1000, with younger 5 month old Aberdeen Angus cross £800 from Messrs Young.
Bull stirk sold to £1460 for 8 month old Blondes from HM Hodgson, with reared British Blue cross £1220 from MW&M Hodgson. Young 5 month old Hereford cross achieved £1070 from RJ&J Gardner.

STORE CATTLE

An abundance of regular and returning purchasers saw a rise in both numbers forward and prices achieved.
Strongest steers sold to £2140 for Aberdeen Angus cross from JE D JER Wightman, with others regularly £1900 to £2100. Medium steers sold to £1860 for Limousin cross from TW Nelson & Son, with most £1650 to £1800. Younger end cattle were eagerly bid for, with yearlings to £1650 and first cross £1350 to £1500. Several pens of dairy bred steers sold to £1700 for Norwegian Reds from B Butterfield & Son, with black and whites £1590 from S&M Cooper and Montbeliardes £1600 from M Bateman & Son.
Heifers sold to £2360 for a Charolais cross from JM Haddow with endless pens of stronger heifers £1950 to £2100. Eye catching yearlings sold to £1850 for a Limousin cross from J Twigge who sold others at £1650 to £1700. 8 month old Blondes from MJ Whitworth always sell well peaking at £1510. First cross heifers at 10-14 month old were generally selling at £1120 to £1450.
A nice entry of young bulls again sold to £1840 for 8 month old Blondes from MJ Whitwortrh, who sold others at £1680. Other younger first cross bulls were £1150 to £1380.

CAST / OTM CATTLE

A fast and furious sale with all sold averaging 272p/kg. The best cows sold to 339p/kg for a Limousin from T Atkinson and 329p/kg for a Stabiliser from A Dixon & Son, with others regularly 295p/kg to 320p/kg. Feeding types were 265p/kg to 280p/kg. Top grossing achieved £2536 for a Blonde from T Atkinson, with endless of the better end beef cows £2150 to £2400.
Dairy cows sold to 269p/kg for a Holstein Friesians from Jenkin Crag Farm, WH Kitching & Son and G Cuthbertson. Other parlour types were generally 240p/kg to 255p/kg. Top grossing being £2530 from H Wright & Son.
OTM steers sold to 339p/kg for a British Blue cross and £2420 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from JW Robinson & Son.
OTM beef heifers sold to 329p/kg and £2089 for Stabiliser from A Dixon & Son, with dairy heifers to 289p/kg and £1768.
Cull bulls sold to 274p/kg and £1679 for Holstein Friesian from Messrs Dennison.
